Best known to Australian audiences as Senior Detective Tony Benjamin in Cop Shop, Greg has worked extensively as an actor, singer and master of ceremonies since graduating from the National Institute of Dramatic Art over four decades ago.

 

He has had leading roles on stage in many productions, including Godspell as John the Baptist/Judas in the original Sydney production, Don’s Party, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, One Day of the Year, Man of la Mancha, and regularly performed as Georg von Trapp in The Sound of Music opposite Lisa McCune. More recently he starred in the contemporary musicals Lucky Stiff and A New Brain and excelled as Javert in Les Miserables.

 

Apart from Cop Shop, Greg’s television credits include sustaining roles in Bellbird, Prisoner, The Group and Ocean Girl. As a guest artist his appearances include Blue Heelers, The Secret Life of Us, Neighbours,  Skippy, Number 96, Division 4, High Flyers, The Anzacs, Matlock Police, Boney, Fergus McPhail, Henderson Kids 2 and Homicide.

 

Greg sang for 12 months at Sydney’s Bull ’n Bush theatre restaurant and has performed in cabaret in Australia, the USA and the South Pacific. He has sung on many television shows and, with the Bowman Sisters and his musical director son, Simon, presented his own show And The Beat Goes On at Capers Cabaret in Melbourne. Simon, Lee and Paula Bowman and Julian Sammut are now achieving local and international success as Golden Guitar winning country group Jetty Road.

 

As a Master of Ceremonies, he has worked throughout Australia, in Thailand, Taipei, Los Angeles and New Zealand, working with artists such as Dame Joan Sutherland and John Farnham. He has been MC at Rotary International conventions in Melbourne and Taipei, with audiences over 20,000, to compering and performing in Gilbert and Sullivan concerts at the Melbourne Town Hall, with David Hobson, Tiffany Speight and with the Australian Pops Orchestra and the Victorian Welsh Male Voice Choir.
